"Whakawhanaungatanga – The Connection"
Carved from a deep green cobble of New Zealand nephrite jade—known also as pounamu or greenstone—this pendant carries the soul of the river from which it was taken. Its front has been carefully carved and sanded smooth, allowing the rich, translucent green to emerge, while the reverse has been left in its natural, raw state, preserving the untouched face of the original stone. Both sides are polished to a soft sheen, honouring the duality of transformation and origin.
While not a traditional toki, the pendant’s form echoes the strong, grounded shape of the toki blade, historically worn as a symbol of strength, authority, and determination. This piece bridges that ancestral reference with a more organic expression—one that invites the wearer into a quiet relationship with the whenua (land) and the wai (water) that formed it over millennia.
Strung on an adjustable woven cord, this pendant is designed to rest close to the heart, where its warmth and weight can serve as a reminder of your connection—to the earth, to Aotearoa, and to your own path.
Each piece is unique. This one is yours.
